JUST BETWEEN US
(AND EVERYONE WE TELL...)

Just Between Us (and everyone we tell…) asks graphic design to abandon its fixation on the broadest possible audience and turn instead toward the private—the intimate, the local, the unseen. It takes gossip, long dismissed as frivolous and feminized, as its methodology: a form of knowledge production co-authored in community, peer-reviewed by those we trust, and passed down outside institutional rules. Before mass media, gossip was how we knew what was safe, who was trustworthy, and how to care for one another. This body of work makes space for that informal knowledge—and asks what design can learn from it.

RELATIONAL CITATION STYLE

I’ve been working on the creation of a citation system from my thesis around the idea that all knowledge is communally generated. RCS treats oral transmission and collaborative thinking as legitimate and valuable scholarly sources that should be properly credited and traced along its lineage.

With modifying EB Garamond, I developed a set of symbols and scripted the font file to build this simple to use citation system.

In addition to the system + font, I designed and printed a small run of handbooks. The RCS handbook is a helpful guide that introduces and includes all details for how to cite using this new relational style.
