MEKURA
Mekura is a text font made for the book The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker. The idea comes from Parker’s descriptions of a generous authority. “A gathering run on generous authority is run with a strong, confident hand, but it is run selflessly, for the sake of others. Generous authority is imposing in a way that serves your guests.”
The idea that the people pleasing, chill host is actually not the one who is kind to their guests, sparked a concept for a highly readable font, based off of strong and distinct sharp angles, paired with well-drawn softer, rounder strokes.
The word Mekura, is transliterated from Hebrew, meaning a beam, rafter, coverage, shelter, and protection. Like the generous authority, Mekura is made to protect and support its reader, through its strength, stability, and warm nature.
